Adam Yauch Remembered: Too Sweet To Be Sour, Too Nice To Be Mean

Life is hard. We all know it and feel it through our work, our relationships and just figuring out what it is we want at the end of all of this. One thing that I know helps get me through the rough patches in life is music. The moment you play a song, that melody and those lyrics enchantingly carry you off to a place of a mutual understanding where you realize you aren't alone in your thoughts, fears and aspirations. Music, is something that washes from the soul, the dust of our everyday life and it allows us to see a new perspective, start anew and realize we're not alone in anything.

This past week, someone from my childhood left this world, sinking my heart to depths of unfathomable consciousness. Adam Yauch, also known as MCA and one-third of the Beastie Boys, died on May 4. While it may not come as a complete shock to many since he was battling cancer before, a loss of life, is still always a loss of life. The heart becomes heavy at any cost and I've realized those that heal me through music and laughter, can't last forever in the physical but instead, have been immortalized for all of us and these generations to come. It is with great sadness that I write this whole piece...

Album Review: This Loud Morning (David Cook)

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed with songwriters and I admire most, it’s the courage they have to strip themselves down; exposing their thoughts and feelings to a capricious world while diving into a deep unknown abyss just to know that someone along the way understands that very meaning they’re trying to articulate. Deep, well-thought songs don’t come from the surface. They come from deep down with an open heart and mind that allows for poetry, melody and passion to permeate through.

An artist who never fails to wear his heart on his sleeve is David Cook, the past winner of the FOX reality show, American Idol but don’t peg him into the Idol cliché. Cook is one of the rare winners along with Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson who’s able to stand on his own two feet and found success over the years by laying his heart on the line. Lyrically and vocally, Cook is impressive and by far one of the finest musicians emerging today. It’s been about two and a half years since his platinum-selling self-titled album debuted and the wait has been worth it.

newsvine - don't you forget about david cook: american idol season 10 farewell song revealed

I'm sure the lot of you have flailed today, lost your ovaries, screamed to the top of your lungs in excitement and like me, burned down a building and walked away only to hope freeze frame applies in real life and give the best goshdang fist pump in the world!

David Cook is back friends. He's back and better than ever. I was texting with Em aka [livejournal.com profile] storminmay earlier today and we both mutually love the flailing and the honest fact that his music has the power to bring all of us together and create this bond. It's adorable. I love it! I had the chance today without even realizing it to write a little something over at my Newsvine column. Be sure to check it out and let me know what you think of the Simple Minds' cover David's created.

Don't You Forget About David Cook: American Idol Season 10 Farewell Song Revealed

During the week of March 8 on American Idol, David Cook, the winner of the popular reality competition’s seventh season returns with a musical treat. His latest song, a cover of the 1985 hit by Simple Minds, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” will make its debut next week as this year’s send-off track for the departing contestants of the show’s tenth season.

This is a big surprise for all of his fans as they’ve waited eagerly for new music from the multi-platinum seller since his successful self-titled debut album back in 2008, selling more than 1.4 million copies along with his American Idol coronation single, “The Time of my Life” becoming the highest-selling in the show’s history.

She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart.
While I'm drinking jack all alone in my local bar
And we don't know how we got into this mad situation
Only doing things out of frustration.

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard.
She needs me now but I can't seem to find the time.
I've got a new job now in the umemployment line
And we don't know we got into this mess, is it God's test?
Someone help us cause we're doing our best.

Trying to make it work but man these times are hard...

Heaven,
I'm in Heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak;
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek.

Heaven,
I'm in Heaven,
And the cares that hang around me thro' the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak
When we're out together dancing, cheek to cheek.

Oh! I love to climb a mountain,
And to reach the highest peak,
But it doesn't thrill me half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.

Oh! I love to go out fishing
In a river or a creek,
But I don't enjoy it half as much
As dancing cheek to cheek.

Dance with me
I want my arm about you;
The charm about you
Will carry me thro' to Heaven

I'm in Heaven,
and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak;
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.

And we're caught up in the crossfire
Of heaven and hell
And we're searchin' for shelter
Lay your body down
Lay your body down
Lay your body down

Watching you dress as you turn down the lights
I forget all about the storm outside
Dark clouds roll their way over town
Heartache and pain came-ah pouring down
Like hail, sleet and rain, yeah they're handing it out

And we're caught up in the crossfire
Of heaven and hell
And we're searchin' for shelter
Lay your body down
Lay your body down
Lay your body down...

stop! and stare! ♥______♥

I have nothing else to say but that this is a piece of art! I am not just saying that. Ashleigh aka [livejournal.com profile] ch_ch_chinatown is seriously one of my favourite performers! I put her in that class of performers with musicians who've signed records because she is AMAZING. Period. She's modest, warm-hearted and she doesn't understand just how gorgeous the tone to her voice is. This performance of hers, gave me goosebumps also known as my new word, "goosies"! She sang it ever so tenderly with this sincere vulnerability and I guarantee, in the years to come Ashleigh will be your Idol. But remember. I'm her #1 fan!

Now. Enjoy...

PS: If anyone wants an MP3 rip of this (along w/cover art -- yes, I swearzies I'll make it) let me know and I shall upload! :)

newsvine - twitter's "follow friday" - bands/musicians you should follow
It's the second week of my exclusive "Follow Friday" feature at my Newsvine column. What do you guys think of it so far? Not too shabby? I'm not sure what else I can literally put a focus on but I have an idea. There will be a "American Idol Season 7: Where Are They Now?" edition coming next week so stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, check out this week's article and if you've got a Newsvine account, comment there and vote me up the 'Vine! :D

Even if you're not as yet on Twitter or just, "don't get it", you must have heard by now that it's a phenomenon of sorts. The faster its popularity grows, the more effective it can be for one trying to make a name for themselves.

The beauty of this micro-blogging site is that it can be used as many different things for many different people and can be an extremely effective promotional tool not just for non-profit organizations, like the ones covered last week but for up and coming musicians and bands who believe that when there are no more words left to express yourself, music begins.

when life hands you lemons...JUST DAAAAANCE!
I made another AI7 music video - I actually started this back in April/May and then Nadia got sick and it was put on the backburner and I never really felt like finishing it but eventually, I did and Nadia got better and I just finished it earlier this week. I was going to upload it on YouTube but I've got one strike and they denied the video as did Imeem with their new rules (so as of now, there is no Forever Young music video out there of the AI7ers).

So, as a sort of homage to my love of dance and my love of the AI7 and their love of dance and love for one another...heheheh...without further ramblings, JUST DANCE!

PS: I am not a big fan of the GaGa. I think she's a twit and her disco stick talk scares the shit out of me. Plus, she wants to sexually assault the JoBros and that's not good in my books because, well frankly - leave some people clean, okay Lady Gaga? You can't infect everyone and considering how sexually open you are, I find it amusing you cover up in your music the real word: just say penis or uh-uh instead of disco stick lady! It's annoying...

this makes me happy!! ♥
So my lovely Ashleigh (aka [livejournal.com profile] ch_ch_chinatown) - the red headed firecracker that she is, is seriously one of my favourite singers. I will not take that back darling. She is amazing, guys! And her voice has this awesome sincerity to it and I love the tone. It reminds me of old school jazz. You know? So delicate and vulnerable. You all have to hear her!

And it's sweet! I really love this song and her version is awesome. I haven't heard the original version by Colbie Caillat as yet but I don't know if I want to because I firmly believe Ashleigh owns this song. Plus guys! OMG!! I was giggling and squeeing so hard! She dedicated it to me and the charming...Mr. James over at her journal!! Ahhh! Hehehhe!! <333

And please vote for her on the Online Idol competition on AINOW.tk! She's in the semi-finals!! Vote for her! She'd make for a great Idol! Why? Because she's awesome and seriously, who doesn't want an awesome Idol?? Riight?? :D

Ashleigh, thank you darling! That was seriously so sweet and you're an amazing singer! You know I've always thought that regardless of dedicating it or not and I admire your voice. It's beautiful! Now when you get famous, promise me you'll let me interview you, LOL! :D *hugs*
